This segment of the tympanum band follows after the Last Supper, eliding the prayer in the garden and omitting the trials before the Sanhedrin and Pilate. On the left, after the hubbub in Gethsemane the soldiers lead away a patient Jesus. On the right, Jesus is about to be flogged. That episode is always pictured with a pillar such as we see here.
